Noah Healy | How Game Theory Impacts the Economy

We’re all familiar with board games such as chess, checkers, and tic tac toe. But how many of us are familiar with the concept of using those games and their setups in things such as economics? It’s an advanced line of thinking called game theory, which is not explored by many people in society. And yet, this method relates to all of us in some way.

Today’s guest, Noah Healy, is a mathematician and an expert in algorithms, who seeks out better ways to impact the global economy through game theory. If you’re unfamiliar with this method, one way in which it’s utilized is what is called The Match – or how medical residencies are determined.

In this conversation, Healy, the founder of Coordisc, breaks down game theory in a way that is easily digestible for those unfamiliar with the concept and shows how it relates to our society and everyday lives – even when we don’t know it. And how does one get into this field? As Healy best describes it, just read the papers.

“If you read the papers and then make any contributions, you can write them down and publish them. There’s a certain amount of interest in game theory in the economic space and a certain amount of interest in the military strategic space. The military people don't really talk about what they're doing very much, and the economics people, there's a handful of them that have won Nobel Prizes, but most of them are also kind of doing secret research, trying to build trading models and so again, they're basically the business of trying to take money from people through deception.”

It’s best to hear him describe this fascinating concept, so go ahead and give the episode a listen. And please subscribe if you want to hear more fascinating interviews with interesting people.
